Raw fruits and vegetables are the best. You want to avoid things with high fructose corn syrup, and prepackaged foods. You also want to (if possible) get organic foods including the fruits and vegetables. They use growth hormones in animals to get their product to be bigger so they have more to sale at a much quicker rate. So the growth hormones get passed on to you. They also give these animals antibiotics which in turn are bad for us because we build a resistance to the antibiotics for when we actually need them. Also, the best milk to drink is almond milk. They have to heat milk from a cow to 160 degrees and calcium is “killed” off at 120 degrees so we’re actually not getting any calcium from milk. It’s milk companies that fund the Osteoporsis Foundation and thats why they don’t tell us this.

  2. Healthy Eating

Be prepared, there’s lots to learn and many changes to make. Don’t get discouraged though, it’s gets easier with time and is definitely worth it, it’s your health we’re talking about here!

It seems most people these days are ignorant to or aren’t bothered by the dozens and hundreds of chemicals, sweeteners, sodium, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides that they consume every day. Lots of people feel addicted to foods that make them feel sick or grossed out afterwards. Most of all, people put convenience before their health. What’s quickest to make and eat? What’s cheapest? And so everyone starts “zapping” ready-to-eat colorful boxes of poison to fit into their busy daily lives, but they should really reconsider how they live. It can be cheap and quick to eat very healthy, you just have to learn how to do it :) . You’re young and now’s the chance to pave your way to a healthy future! I only realized what I was eating and changed my diet half a year ago at the age of 22. I wish I had realized all of this sooner, I feel so much better now! I haven’t just lost weight, but also my headaches and cravings and I can easily get up in the morning. I even enjoy lots of vegetables that I used to ****! I feel really happy about these choices that I make =). But I know it’s hard at first to know what you’re doing.

    Here’s some basic pointers:
-Eat REAL food (Fruit, veggies, whole grains, organic and humanely treated lean meats and eggs),
-Avoid heavily processed foods (2 rules of thumb: If you can’t pronounce it, don’t eat it. The less ingredients, the better) The worse ones are: hydrogenated oils, anything artificial, anything modified, msg, refined flours (especially if you eat lots of grain which it seems you do, try different kinds of grains like millet, buckwheat, oats, rice etc), sugars and sweeteners, lots of sodium, and watch out for “natural flavours” If I could squeeze the juice out of a really old dirty sock, I could put it in a food and call it “all natural”!
    -Avoid fast food and restaurants.
-Buy organic and local. Go to farmer’s markets or to u-picks (these are really fun outings!) and when you go to normal grocery stores, besides the grains and spices, you’ll notice that all the real and healthy food is on the walls of the building, not in between the aisles.Health food stores have a great selection of healthy foods but some of them are expensive. Grow your own garden if you can. It doesn’t have to be big, and you can start out with only a couple of herbs or vegetables in the house. Buying fruits and vegetables in season is cheaper and that’s when the fruits and veggies are at their peak nutrition wise. Frozen vegetables can be very cheap and are great for when you’re out of fresh stuff.
-Make a big outing out of grocery shopping. Get the whole family to go, discuss all the “healthy” foods that you’ve recently realized aren’t, laugh at the ridiculous ingredients found in some of the products, buy your favorite fruits and veggies and plan out your meals.
-Cook your own food or help your family do so. Cooking healthy food can be very simple and delicious (example: has many super easy yummy recipes). There are so many possibilities out there!
-Do lots of research and pay attention to your body. Read labels carefully and be careful about all the health claims food companies make, lots of them are very misleading.
-Eat in moderation, eat slowly and chew your food properly. Don’t do other things at the same time.
-Be active. Enjoy the outdoors and walk/bicycle/inline skate when you can instead of taking bus and car rides everywhere.
-Avoid all the diet pills and diet plans out there, most of them either don’t work, can be unhealthy for you, very costly, or all of the above. Eating only low fat and low calorie foods is not at all as healthy as it seems. Don’t skip meals, your body needs fuel to function properly and it’ll be counter productive if you’re trying to lose weight.
