Can I undergo IVF even though I can have children naturally?

I want to have another baby but I would like to undergo IVF because of the pre-implantation genetic testing that can be done on embryos. My twin girls have Cystic Fibrosis (a genetic disease) although they are bright and beautiful but they have lots of trouble with their lungs and digestive systems and have to be in and out of the hospital a lot. I was just wondering if doctors would allow me to do this simply for the sake of having a baby that isn’t affected with the disease?

    that’s an interesting question…I would think the only way to find out would be to talk to a fertility specialist…

    Yes, but there are very few labs in the country that can do this. Ask your gyno for direction. If s/he can’t help, check the internet particularly California. I know the procedure is done there. Yours is certainly one the cases that this procedure was developed for.

    And yes, you can undergo IVF. The success rate would be considerably higher since you have no infertility issues.

    Talk to your gynecologist. He/she may refer you to a fertility specialist.
