I need to know the genes of the parents?

There are 4 children, 2 boys 2 girls. 2 boys and one girl has cystic fibrosis. Both parents and the other girl appear to be healthy. Using C as dominant(No Cystic Fibrosis) and c as recessive(Cystic fibrosis) What are borth of the aprents. Are they CC, Cc.

    If this is a single-gene trait (which your problem assumes) for which the disease is the recessive trait, and everyone else is healthy, both parents must be Cc, since that is the only way they could possibly not have the trait but be able to pass it on.

    if the parents are healthy and the offspring have the disease, then the parents do have the allele of cystic fibrosis. but since they are healthy, then it is a recessive trait. So both parents are
    Cc, since they have both the healthy allele which is dominant and the recessive sick allele which they have passed on to the offspring.

    Since both parents are healthy they obviously do not have cc as their genotype. They both had to have given their children with cystic fibrosis a recessive allele so they have to be Cc.

  7. Cystic Fibrosis

    Both parents must be Cc.
