My father is 80 years old and had an emergency bowel resection followed by an internal hemorrage.

They had to go back in 36 hours later to stop the bleeding. It has been a few days now and he is eating but his bowel movement is dark and tarry. Is this normal? I am so worried there is something else wrong. He had symptoms of the stomach flu which turned out to be a ruptured bowel from diverticulitis. Didn’t have a problem prior to this.

  1. you must ask this from the Dr.
    If he was bleeding,internally:some blood will be in his stool.this stool will look black from the blood.
    but, within how many days should this clear up?Is he allowed to eat solids already?or just a liquid diet?
    call the Dr, if the tarry stools continue:internal bleeding may be from some other source, or a new spot?
