Is there an antihistamine for food allergies?

literatureprof asked:

If I eat the wrong thing, my mouth and lips sting and I start feeling shaky inside. Often I use Benadryl and Pepcid together and it really seems to help. But my doctor says Benadryl doesn’t help with food allergies. Am I imagining things?

  1. Chemicals on top of chemicals? Oh Dear.
Methinks that you need to examine which foods are causing the problem, then check labelling to see what is acutally in the ‘food’.
    Then avoid that product.
If the food is meant to be ‘freshly made’, still look into what the people have put into it. For instance: there are a lot of pre-prepared sauces that have additives in them that can cause upsets.
Fact is – we humans are NOT supposed to eat chemical preservative laden food on a regular basis. East fresh.

  2. Benadryl is only used for allergies, and unless you are allergic to nuts, then you do not have a food allergy.

You are intolerant. There is a difference, you can be allergic to dogs, dust, bees, etc, but you can not be allergic to food.

So benadryl will not fight the allergies, it may help with the sneezing and runny nose, but technically he is right.

You need to find out what the food is that you are intolerant and stop eating it.

Most people think they have food allergies and do not know that is not possible, only in nuts.

Kind of lactose INTOLERANT, you can not be allergic to milk, your body is intolerant of it.
will give you a list of food intolerances that are possible.

  3. If you have a true allergy to some foods, it should work! Benedryl works fairly well for my nut, peanut and sunflower seed allergies,
