Are You Back Pain And Sciatica Sufferer?
Visit any mattress store & ask to lie down on a FIRM mattress. Spend at least 10 minutes on that mattress & decide if it feels good; write down the cost & the mattress name & number. Thank the sales rep & say you’ll have to save some money [don't be ashamed,either.]
THEN go to Costco, Sam’s, or any place you can get it cheaper. If not the same, try out their FIRM mattress. You don’t need fancy-schmancy mattresses.
Really, a 3/4 inch thick plywood sheet (cost about $45.) & will slide under your present mattress very well & be plenty firm. Cut some wood blocks (4″x4″ ought to be hi enuf) & put one under each leg at the head of your bed. Now you have a firm mattress that fits your bod & you’ve done what your doc told you.
Now you need to learn what-&-how to eat properly. Be sure to take at least 20 minutes to eat a meal (SLOWLY is a must for you, too). Ask your doc’s nurse for a diet or food-list for your problem. Good luck!

If you can afford an adjustable bed get it. any good quatity bed will do but roll up a blanket and put it under the mattress it really helps with reflux. just a couple of inches is enough.
Sciatic Nerve Pain Relief
You can get inexpensive bed risers to raise your bed. I got mine online at walmart (link is below). You can get them several places, I just use walmart because I have a store near me and shipping to it was free. It has several different heights, so I could figure out what worked best for me.
I bought an expensive wedge pillow, but didn’t like it. That’s another option. As one poster said, an adjustable bed would be ideal, but they’re pretty expensive.
As for your mattress, have you tried a mattress topper? Sometimes they help.
If you buy a new mattress, I just saw a tv program saying the inexpensive mattresses are about the same as the ones over $1,000, so I’d go with a cheaper one.
I have an expensive mattress now, and it didn’t last long. My next one will be a cheapie. The stores have firm mattresses, so just ask. Try out mattresses at the stores and see what feels good to you. Of course, you never know until you get them home.

I take medicine daily for Acid Reflux and I just had major back
surgery. My husband bought us a king size Pillow Top Sealy Posturepedic Firm mattress when they were on sale for about
$800. If your Reflux is really bad, you can get your doc to write
you a script for Nexium, Prevacid or another brand of Reflux medicine or you can use over-the-counter Pepcid AC. But to get prescription strength Pepcid AC, you need to take two 20 mg. pills. If one pill works for you, then just take one, but it should help and you may need to take this medicine on a daily basis.
Some important things our Gastroenterologist told us was to NOT eat two hours before we went to bed to allow our food sufficient time to pass into your intestines. He also said we needed a firm mattress and to elevate it to keep the reflux acid from coming back up.
So, my husband put a thick piece of plywood underneath our mattress and he also put two levels of bricks wrapped in a heavy duty garbage bag underneath my side of the mattress to elevate my upper body even more. I sleep on one soft pillow, one firm pillow, plus I also have a special neck pillow to support my bad neck underneath me every night.
I also sleep on my side in a fetal position with two pillows between my knees to help ease the pressure off of my back, especially since I just had back surgery. This was advised by
my Orthopedic Surgeon.
Honestly, I have never heard of anyone having back pain from
sleeping on a mattress that was “too firm” but that does not mean that it’s not true for some people. There is no way that I can get a good night’s sleep on mattresses that are soft. I’ve never had any problems sleeping on a firm mattress during the last twenty years, even before I began having trouble with my back and developed Chronic Reflux.
What we do is whenever it is time to go shopping for a new mattress, we will lie down on beds in the mattress store for 5 to 10 minutes to see if they are going to be the right firmness that we need. Sometimes it takes less than 5 minutes to be able to tell if a particular mattress is not going to work for us.
Anyway, I am sharing experiences we have had with Acid Reflux and back aches from sleeping on the wrong density of mattress. I hope this is of some help to you and that you are feeling and sleeping better soon. ?
